store policy

I bought a new pair of shoes last Saturday. As the saleswoman rung me up I said "I don't need a bag, thanks." to which she replied "You have to have a bag, it's store policy."

Now, maybe it was the wine I had at lunch, maybe because I am back on my eco-kick but I think I said "Pardon Me?" a bit louder than necessary. "What do you mean it is store policy?" I look around "I don't see any signs that state this policy. Is it written down somewhere, on the back of the receipt." Because as any good shopper knows the rules are on the back of the receipt... if its not listed there, then in doesn't count!

"Ma'am, I don't know what else to tell you... it's the policy everyone has to have a bag."

"Is it a security thing?" I asked... she shrugged her shoulders. I said "This is what I am going to do... I am going to buy these shoes and walk out of the store WITHOUT a bag... no bag...okay?"

And I did just that!

Yesterday I returned the shoes .... the rubbed the back of my heal the wrong way. While at the counter I asked off hand about the bag policy... both ladies at the counter said they had no idea what I was talking about... that as far as they knew there wasn't one. They looked at me as if I had lost my mind... I kinda felt like I had!!

I was told the same thing at Belk's last summer in WEatherford. I had my own recyclable shopping bag. I said you can say you offered it and I refused it. I am not wasting the plastic.
