how very mature...

There is something unnerving about little girls at the nail salon. The ones you can tell have been there a few times before. They know all the lingo and the whole drill. I feel like they are out of place, and at the same time it makes me feel like I am doing something childish...

I remember a time before I had my nails done professionally. All the hours wasted trying to apply polish properly with out making a mess. (remember those horrible press on nails!!!) I use to say that you can tell when you are a grownup when you can paint your nails on your right hand just as well as you can on your left.

I think it was Charleston SC where I got my first professional pedicure. I know it was in Abilene where I perfected it. The walking up, the telling the whole salon what you need done, the picking out of the color, the sitting in the fancy chair, deciding what level of pedi you want, explaining to the nail tech what you would like done with the shape of the nail, trying to figure out how much English your tech knows, the flimsy little salon shoes you get, the dryer you sit under. The whole enchilada. It is quite a process and an intimidating one for someone who doesn't know the ropes.... or at least is was for me. And now that I am a pro I feel a bit more mature, more grownup. Finally I have earned the treat of getting pampered... and then a 10 year old walks in delcaring "Mummy, I want a mani -pedi... not just my color changed" and I feel silly.

I NEVER went and got my nails done as a kid! NEVER... I never went to a spa or anything like that.... what in the world is going on here!

LOL Funny! I took Salem to the one in the mall to get her toes painted with a design for Amy's wedding. It was $6. She felt SO pampered. But it's not something like a real mani pedi.
