Addiction

Watching TV today I was reminded of something I had learned a long time ago... but wanted to share with all of you.

“Addiction is not defined by the amount consumed or frequency of use.... but by the consequences”.

If you have things happen as a result of drugs and/or alcohol... then there is a problem.

You can be an alcoholic even if you’ve never called in sick to work.... never driven drunk....never beat your kids or your spouse. You can be an alcoholic even if you drink just on the weekends or at parties. You can be an alcoholic as a stay at home mom or the president of the bank.

Here is my message to those who are living with someone with whom things may not be quite right:
If you think there is something wrong.... you are probably right no matter what anyone on the outside says. Just because no one else sees it but you doesn’t mean that it is not happening. You are not crazy; there is nothing wrong with you. Don’t ignore your gut feeling just because you are too afraid of what that means. Protect yourself, educate yourself... love yourself.
