f y i - literally

I saw this at one of Tristan's doctors offices.... I felt like I needed to share it. No matter what your particular views are on this subject, it never hurts to educate yourself more. Knowledge is freedom!

That's really horrific. I almost wish I hadn't read it. I knew that stuff happened, but seeing it described like that turns my stomach. Still, though, I can't help but to think that all those women who did such things chose to inflict such pain on themselves, and the unborn babies, who go through that and much, MUCH worse during an abortion are totally and completely innocent victims. Overturning Roe V. Wade would protect the truly innocent - leaving it as is forsakes them.

Thank you for reading it and thank you for sharing your thoughts. I too thought "what was so frightening to those women that they would hurt themselves so badly." We may never understand that.

The doctor obviously feels compassion for these ladies, and feels legislation is needed to avoid them personally undergoing such barbaric practices to end an unwanted pregnancy. I commend him for that. Unfortunately, though women have long abused their bodies or allowed others to abuse them for centuries. I feel just as much compassion for the woman who allows her husband to continually beat her as the women mentioned in the article. I can offer alternatives in both cases (leave your husband/adoption), but ultimately they have free will to do what they want...as long as their free will doesn't infringe on someone else's...in this particular case the child's. The writer wants your heart to be tugged at...and it is. However, if the writer was to describe bulimia or domestic violence...we equally would be moved to compassion...a law doesn't necessarily encourage or prevent it from happening. If the law could prevent people from doing things...then domestic violence wouldn't happen nor would have abortions prior to Roe vs. Wade. Like Julia said "We may never understand."

It is a very hard article to read. But I thank you Dot for not only reading it but also sharing your thoughts!

You have to assume, though, that overturning it would do at least SOME good towards protecting the innocent. Obviously, it's not a perfect system - but just because abortions will continue illegally and women will choose to mutilate themselves to avoid carrying a baby to term doesn't mean that a great number of babies wouldn't be spared the fate of being aborted. I don't think anyone should assume it's not worth it because abortions would take place anyway. It's not going to be overturned, and this whole conversation is probably pointless, but still.

I'm just folding clothes and can't get this article out of my mind. It truly brings you to tears thinking how scared these women must have been to risk their own life to avoid bringing a child into the world. If only we knew their stories. If only we could have cried with them. Sometimes the world can be so harsh.
