Braden's latest obsession is Scooby Doo. And when I say obsession I am putting it mildly. Right now it is vying for the number one spot held by his previous longest running obsession 'Blues Clues'. Scooby is holding his own though and I think it will beat out BC if I indulge it.
Funny thing is, he is was introduced to Scooby by ME! One day a month or so ago I was about to shoot myself in the head .... then I realized we didn't have to watch Wow Wow Wubbzy, the Upside Down Show, Maisy, Little Bear, Franklin, Max and Ruby or CARS every single day! I was the mother! I had the power to choose what to watch!
So I flipped through the channels.... Sponge Bob (NO!) Wiggles (urp... I just threw up in my mouth a bit) Kim Possible (don't even get me started) ..........search search search....... Scooby.... perfect.
I recorded a few and left it at that. I liked the idea of Scooby. The message it sends about NOT being frightened and to look/investigate into things. I think it promotes the right message of rational thought. I do make sure that we only watch the shows, since some of the movies (especially the live action version) incorporate "made up concepts" and claim that they are real i.e. spells and ghosts and that witchcraft or voodoo can 'actually make things happen' versus the idea that they are just pretend.
But then it started.... quietly at first but growing louder .... Can I watch a Scooby show? Every day, the question came and everyday we watch. Then we SET a timer to record ALL the old shows... the classic standard cartoon. There are WAY to many different Scooby spin offs that I didn't want to run into Scrappy - thank you very much.
So it has been Scooby 24/7 . Then we discovered What's New Scooby Doo! A modern twist of the old show. Sticking to the same type of story but with enough tongue and cheek jokes for (obviously) the parents like myself who would understand why its' funny that Fred and Daphne always go off together.
Then we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house. And he came back with a Scooby stuffed animal and a mystery machine (that unfolds for a 'play' area) and all 5 characters with bendable arms and such. (very cute!)
So the other day when he had some friends over (Megan and Josh ) we busted out the new toy.
Who do you want to be I asked Braden "Shaggy!" he yelled with a big smile on his face. "Nice call" I thought to myself. "Megan, what about you?" "Velma" she answered
I wondered if that was because Braden said Shaggy....
Josh vacillated between Fred and Scooby... finally settling on Scooby.
Which left Tristan as Fred and me as Daphne.
I found the whole thing kind of funny. We had just enough people and of the correct gender to fill all the roles... and hey... I like being Daphne!
It was quite cute to hear the kids voices trying to imitate the characters and their dialogue. Tristan and I eventually pooped out. He went to take a nap and I tried tackling the laundry pile and Josh eventually went home. But for the rest of the day Braden and Megan played Scooby.

Same with us, our 2 1/2 year saw a rerun on tv before bed one night. When he woke up the next morning, he doesn't want anything to do with any other toy or cartoon except Scooby Doo.
We bought four or five Scooby Doo dvds. Plus, the mystery machine, action figures, puzzles, you name it.
You should check out the scooby store they pretty much have everything or can show you where to get it.
