Braden Tristan and I along with COUNTLESS others pull into the school around 7:50/8:00 in the morning. We all turn west into the parking lot, drive north, drop the kiddos off then turn east out onto the road. side note: EVERY time I am reminded of Mr. Mom's drop o drop off scene.
I watch all the other parents dropping off their 4-5 year olds. And, I assume (since I see the parents dressed for the day) that they all got up "about" the same time we did. Logically it just stands to reason.
That being said..... I ASSUME then that all kids go to be at "about" the same time. Take into account the nap factor of course.
Well, I assumed WRONG. I don't know what is going on this week, but I keep seeming to have the same part of a different conversation over and over again. And As I type this I can't even recall (shout out to alberto gonzalez) how any of these conversations start... but I can sure as heck remember how they end.... And at some point I utter the words " ....they go to bed about 6" .
then .... the same response "WOW! Really!?" it's a mix between amazement & confusion. "That is amazing" or "That's interesting... why that early?"
WHY? ... because Braden gets up at 6 in the flippin' morning! AND because he is TIRED !
What time are all these other kids going to bed? Are they taking naps? (Braden doesn't) Why is what we do so different than everybody else? I just don't get it...

I don't blame you, Julia. If Lindsey didn't take a nap at school and was tired at that time in the evening and had to get up that early in the morning for school I'd put her to bed that early, too. I totally understand!
okay Julia... That is way freaking early! Olivia is in bed between 730 and 800. She is up at 645am, but does still nap at least 1 1/2 hours per day. The important thing here is that you have ALWAYS marched to the beat of your own drum and regardless of what the rest of the world thinks, you should continue doing so. You are their Momma, and you know what's best for them!!!
I think that all kids probably get the same amount of sleep, many people just do it in different ways. You put Braden down at 6:00; we put Aaron down at 9:00. But it is nothing for Aaron to kick out a three-hour nap in the afternoon. Kids need at least 12 hours of sleep and you try to get it for them any way you can!
I think it is fine they go to bed that early-it works for you. Maggie barely needs 12-13 hours a sleep total in a day. The "powers that think of names for things" call her a child who does not need alot of sleep. My cousin's little boy sleeps even less (12 hours total, 13 on a good day). I know it may seem like they all need lots of sleep, but science has not found that to be the case. I can tell you that I am glad yours sleep that much and wish mine did. Maybe if I have another they will. If Maggie went to bed at six she would be up between 4-5. But do what is right for you and don't worry what anyone else thinks. I don't know about anyone else, but I am probably just jealous when I say things like that. :) By the way, there is a four year old boy on the circle who goes to bed between 6-630 and gets up at 5-530. It works for them and she doesn't take any flack about it. Barely three year old boys go to bed at 9 get up at 7 and take a 2 hour nap and our fine. Different strokes...
Miss you lots!
Martha
Who cares if you're different? Whic of these parents passed bedtime legislation? I worry about kids staying up too late, not going to bed too early! Sheesh...
School nights: E=8, O=7:30. O's is a choice, he's tired and he asks. E is becasue that's what she need for maximum modd stabilization. :)
My girls go to bed anywhere from 7-8 pm. People all around me send their kids to bed at all different times. I think what's important is reading your kids and knowing what works best for your household. I would LOVE to have the girls in bed at 6! And since Coley's waking up at 6 and no longer wants to nap, I just might try it!
